Dear Astro backers!

Here are the news from the Astro campaign...

We have now completed the camera sensor component selection. We have selected a 48MP Sony camera sensor for the Astro to provide high quality camera images for the device.

We are continuing discussions with MediaTek on the 5G processor selection and license, but this has not prevented us from initial PCB component placement.

The main challenges with component selection and final placement in the past few weeks have been around trying to keep the device thickness as thin as possible whilst fitting all the components into their intended positions.

The key challenge was the placement of the rather deep 48MP Sony camera sensor into the base of the Astro without increasing overall thickness of the phone.

Also, the placement of the fingerprint sensor. We have opted to place the fingerprint sensor on the edge of the device rather than under the AMOLED screen in order not to increase overall thickness of the Astro.

We are nearing completion of the final device thickness stack for the Astro and we are expect to have Astro's mechanical component stack ready at the end of the coming week.

This means that we can soon proceed to producing the sample components.

わざわざメールを送ってきて遅延です、不具合ですってのもないとは思いますが、このメールを見る限りは順調なようです。
そしてこのメールで嬉しいのが、スマートフォン本体の薄さにこだわってくれているということです。
やはり普段使いを目的とするスマートフォンなので、いくらキーボード付きでもあまりに分厚いのは使い勝手が悪くなるのでこの情報は嬉しいところです。

まだプロトタイプも完成していない状態ではありますが、来年の3月には発送予定なのでいまから楽しみです。遅延がないことを祈ります。
